Sauna + Plunge · Effective

Sauna + Plunge times your sauna and cold plunge sessions and keeps them in the Health app. This policy explains exactly what happens to that information. The short version: it stays on your devices, and I don't collect anything about you.

Who we are

Sauna + Plunge is made by Dave Ellis and published on the App Store by The Racing Line Software Limited, a company in the United Kingdom ("we", "us"). You can reach us at dave@daveellis.dev.

The short version

  • There's no account and nothing to sign up for.
  • We don't collect anything about you. Your sessions and your heart rate never reach us.
  • The app reads and writes Health data through Apple's HealthKit, on your devices, and never uses it for advertising.
  • There are no analytics, crash-reporting or advertising SDKs in the app, and no tracking.
  • Free users see one small banner on iPhone for another app from the same developer (see The banner). Its request carries no account, device or advertising identifier.

Health data

With your permission, Sauna + Plunge uses Apple's HealthKit, on your devices only:

  • On Apple Watch: the app reads your heart rate during a session, to show it to you, and saves each session to the Health app as a workout, with the times you spent in the sauna, the plunge and the transitions between them.
  • On iPhone: the app reads your saved sessions and heart rate from the Health app to show your history, your stats and your trends.
  • Deleting: the iPhone app only changes the Health app to delete a session's workout, and only when you delete that session.

Your Health data never leaves your devices, or your own iCloud if you've chosen to sync Health with it. We never receive it, it's never used for advertising, and it's never shared with anyone. Apple stores and protects Health data under Apple's privacy policy.

What stays on your devices

To work, the app keeps a little more on each device, in storage that only it can read: your settings; the session in progress, so it can carry on if the app closes; and, on iPhone, a list of the sessions you've deleted, so they stay out of your history. If a session can't be saved to the Health app, the watch keeps it on the watch instead. None of this is sent to us or to anyone else.

If you don't have Sauna Unlimited, the iPhone app shows a small banner for another app from the same developer, such as The Racing Line. It isn't from an ad network. The app downloads the banner's text and image from theracingline.app, our own website. That request says which app is asking, its version, the type of device and the device's language. It includes no account, device or advertising identifier, and nothing from the Health app.

We don't keep a record of these requests, though our hosting provider keeps standard server logs for a limited time, as for any website. The app doesn't record whether you see or tap the banner. Tapping it opens that app's page on the App Store, or its page on theracingline.app or daveellis.dev. Once you buy Sauna Unlimited, the banner goes and the app stops asking for it. The watch app never shows one.

Purchases

Sauna Unlimited is sold through the App Store, and Apple handles the payment. We never see your payment details. The app checks your purchase with the App Store on your device to unlock it. Apple gives us sales reports that don't include your name or contact details.

Crash reports and diagnostics

The app contains no analytics or crash-reporting code. If you've chosen to share analytics with app developers in iOS Settings (Privacy & Security, then Analytics & Improvements), Apple may send us crash reports and usage statistics that don't identify you. You can turn this off at any time.

Data we collect

None. We don't collect, sell or share personal data from Sauna + Plunge, so there's nothing for us to keep, hand over or delete. The banner request described above is answered and not kept. If you email us, we use your email address only to reply to you.

Your choices and control

  • Health: change what the app can read and write in the Health app on your iPhone, under Sharing, then Apps. It's listed as Sauna.
  • Deleting a session: delete it in the iPhone app and its workout leaves the Health app too. You can also delete workouts in the Health app itself.
  • The banner: buying Sauna Unlimited removes it, and the requests for it stop.
  • Deleting the app: removes what it keeps on that device. Your sessions stay in the Health app until you delete them there.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law (UK GDPR) and similar laws elsewhere, you have rights over personal data a company holds about you, such as seeing it or having it deleted, and you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk). Because we hold no personal data from Sauna + Plunge, your sessions are entirely under your control, in the Health app on your devices. If you have questions, email us and we'll help.

Children

Sauna + Plunge doesn't ask anyone for their name, age or contact details, and doesn't collect personal data from anyone, including children. Sauna Unlimited is bought through the App Store, where Family Sharing's Ask to Buy lets a parent approve purchases.

Changes to this policy

If anything here changes, we'll update this page and the date at the top. If a change ever meant collecting data, we'd ask for your permission in the app first.
