On your watch

How do I set up the Action button?

On Apple Watch Ultra, open Settings on your watch, tap Action Button and set Action to Workout. Then set App to Sauna and First Press to Sauna + Plunge. Choose Sauna + Plunge rather than Open App, so each press switches phase during a session. Once it's set, a press from the watch face starts a session, and every press after that moves you to the next phase. The steps are in the app too: in its Settings on the watch, under Action Button Setup, and in Setup on your iPhone, behind the i button on History.

My watch isn't an Ultra. How do I switch phases?

Only Apple Watch Ultra has an Action button. On other models, tap Next on the phase screen to move to the next phase. Water Lock stays off, because it would block the button. On a watch that supports Double Tap, a double tap presses Next for you.

How do I clear Water Lock?

Press and hold the Digital Crown. On Apple Watch Ultra, the Action button keeps switching phases under Water Lock, so you only need to clear it to use the screen. If you'd rather it didn't come on by itself, turn off Auto Water Lock in the app's Settings on the watch.

Health and your sessions

Why does Sauna + Plunge ask for Health access?

On your watch, it shows your heart rate during a session and saves each session to the Health app as a workout. On your iPhone, it reads your saved sessions and heart rate to show your history and stats, and only changes Health to remove a session you delete. Your Health data is never used for advertising, and it never leaves your devices, or your own iCloud if you sync Health with it.

How do I change Health access?

Open the Health app on your iPhone, tap Sharing, then Apps, and choose Sauna, the name the app goes by on your devices. If History is empty, tap the i button on History to open Setup, then tap Allow Health Access. A session from your watch can take a little while to appear, because Health syncs it to your iPhone.

What happens when I delete a session?

Deleting a session on your iPhone removes it from History and Stats and deletes its workout from the Health app, so it leaves your watch's history after the next sync too. The app asks first, because it can't be undone. If Health won't delete the workout, for example because write access is off, the session still goes from History and Stats, and the app tells you it's still in Health.

Sauna Unlimited

What does Sauna Unlimited unlock?

Your whole history rather than the last 30 days, your all-time bests and longest session on Stats, trends over three months, a year or everything, and no banner. It's £2.99, once, with no subscription. The watch app is the same either way, and older sessions stay in the Health app, so buying it brings every one of them back.

How do I restore my purchase?

Open the purchase screen and tap Restore. You'll find it behind the locks on History and Stats, and in Setup, behind the i button on History. Make sure you're signed in to the App Store with the Apple Account you bought it with.

Why is there a banner in the app?

Free users see one small banner along the bottom of the iPhone app, for my other apps like The Racing Line. It comes from my own website, not an ad network: nothing tracks you, and the app doesn't record whether you see or tap it. Sauna Unlimited removes it, and the watch never shows one.
